Library Services Fall 2020 for Faculty

Faculty

Assignment & Course Design

We can assist you in creating or re-envisioning research- and inquiry-based assignments to better fit into a blended, hybrid, or fully remote learning environment. We have expanded our digital library resources to support multimodal digitally-mediated learning, and are happy to work with you to think through how library resources and course-integrated library instruction can support your intended learning outcomes.

If your class has any sort of research component, we also encourage you to add your librarian to your Coursesite and/or syllabus -- this helps alert students to the fact that there is a course-dedicated librarian available for research help and enables our ability to easily contact your students. To get in touch with us, please fill out this form, or directly contact your liaison librarian

Classroom Support

Lehigh’s librarians are available to provide:

  • Synchronous virtual library instruction
  • Interactive tutorials
  • Course-customized prerecorded videos and library guides

Instruction can occur at a single point in the semester, or at multiple points throughout the semester, and can take different forms according to what is most conducive to your course needs. Because librarian-led instruction sessions are most effective when meaningfully integrated into your course, we strongly encourage that instruction be directly tied to an assignment and/or an assessment.

Collections

To discover our ebook collections, you can check the library catalog to see if the title you need is available as an ebook (search by title, then choose “eBook” from the right hand side “Format” filter). If you need an ebook copy of a book, submit a request for digital access via this Electronic Resource Request Form, and library staff will do our best to obtain the material you need in digital form.

Additionally, the library maintains an extensive collection of digital content that is available to you from anywhere in the world:

  • Search in any of our databases for journal articles, streaming video, data and statistics, visual media, and many other types of content.
  • Look for a specific journal in our journals directory, or enjoy a digital reading experience through the Browzine app or desktop program.
  • Access any of our digitized Special Collections content here, or email Special Collections staff for specialized help with historical material.

(Note that in order to access library resources, we recommend installing and connecting to the Lehigh VPN. Further instructions are available here. )

For books and materials not found in the library catalog and are not available in digital format, use the ILL request form to request titles from other libraries. At this time Lehigh is starting to borrow more books from other University libraries that are offering some services.

Print books are available for pickup at the following location:

  • Curbside in front of the Fairchild Martindale Library

Self-retrieval from the stacks is also possible for those who have swipe access to the library buildings.

In order to obtain a physical book by request, first search the library catalog to find titles currently in the Lehigh collection. Click on the book title, and then click the "Request This" link. Login and submit the request. Once the Library receives the request, an email will be sent in 2 days to the requestor to schedule a pick up outside at FML next to the LOVE sculpture on ASA Drive. The curbside service will be available 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. If you have any questions on requesting materials or pick up of materials, please email: inlend@lehigh.edu or call 610-758-4992.
